Preethi Thiagarajan, OD, PhD, FAAO

Dr. Thiagarajan received her undergraduate training in optometry from the Elite School of Optometry, India. Following 1 year of clinical practice in a multispecialty ophthalmological institution in India, she received a Master’s in Vision Science from the University of Waterloo, Canada, and a Ph.D. in Vision Science from the State University of New York, USA. She has done two postdoctoral fellowships in New York and Texas, USA. She earned the Doctor of Optometry degree from the New England College of Optometry, Boston. She was a member of the prestigious Beta Sigma Kappa Honors Society and was bestowed with the William Feinbloom Award for excellence in low vision care during the O.D. program. She was a recipient of the prestigious William C. Ezell Fellowship from the American Academy of Optometry for excellence in optometric research and education during her Ph.D. candidacy. Her research expertise includes eye movements in traumatic brain injury, stroke, and other neurological conditions and oculomotor rehabilitation. She has published over 25 peer-reviewed articles and 2 book chapters. Dr. Thiagarajan also has experience working as a research associate at the renowned Massachusetts Eye and Ear, Boston.

Currently, she is an optometrist and director of research at Batra Vision Medical Group.  She provides both routine and medical eye exams for all ages, co-manages refractive and cataract surgeries, and treats various ocular diseases. She has advanced certification in glaucoma diagnosis and treatment. She also performs routine contact lens exams and specialty contact lens fittings in complex conditions such as keratoconus and post-surgical corneas. She is a fellow of the American Academy of Optometry and a member of the American Optometric Association and Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology. Her research interests are clinical drug trials, presbyopic and post-cataract extraction IOLs, ophthalmic imaging in ocular disease diagnosis, progression monitoring, and management, and therapeutic contact lenses.

In her free time, she enjoys time with her husband and son exploring the outdoors in the Bay area. She is an avid badminton and table tennis player and loves to go on hikes around the Tri-Valley area.
