What is ReSTOR®?

ReSTOR®, also known by the technical name AcrySof® ReSTOR® Adopized Diffractive IOL, is a lens implant made of a soft plastic. Convex on both sides, the ReSTOR® lens implant is placed in the eye through a small incision. Batra Vision Medical Group is one of only three ophthalmology practices certified to use ReSTOR® in the Bay Area. We are proud to have such a distinction for using ReSTOR® at our offices serving the Oakland and East Bay area from San Leandro and Concord.

The ReSTOR® lens is often used following cataract surgery to replace the cloudy lens of the eye or to correct presbyopia, an age-related condition in which the lens loses flexibility and has a harder time focusing.

How does ReSTOR® work?

The ReSTOR® lens implant uses patented refraction, apodization, and diffraction technologies to help focus light on the retina. This specially designed technology regulates the light delivered to the retina, distributing the proper amount of light for focal points at various distances. By properly focusing light on the retina, a patient is able to achieve a full range of vision without experiencing the mechanical movement of the lens.

What results can I expect from ReSTOR®?

The results of the ReSTOR® lens will vary from patient to patient. A recent study in Europe has shown that the patients surveyed experienced an average visual acuity ranging from 20/40 to 20/15 without the assistance of prescription glasses or contact lenses.
