Selecting the right eye doctor can seem difficult at first. With so many choices available and numerous advertisements boasting reduced prices on eye surgery, a patient has to sort through all of the misleading claims in order to choose the proper eye care facility and eye care professional that has the patient's best interests in mind.
Below are several things to consider when selecting the right ophthalmologist or LASIK surgeon to meet your needs. We encourage you to contact our East Bay and Oakland area offices to determine if we are the facility for you.
When looking for a LASIK surgeon, you must ensure that the surgeon has years of experience treating nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism. Additional experience or a fellowship in cornea care is also something to consider. You should also see if the eye doctor has any testimonials from recent patients as well as older patients.
The LASIK surgeon you select should be able to deal with vision problems using all of the latest techniques available. A patient looking for the best eye care should have a number of eye care options available. An eye doctor who only performs one procedure or only offers one treatment plan does not serve a patient's best interests.
The LASIK surgeon you select should be dedicated to the field of refractive surgery, performing numerous procedures every month. Refractive surgeons who perform LASIK surgeries occasionally are not dedicated to the field.
Refractive surgery and ophthalmic treatment can be complicated, leading patients to ask a number of questions. Your eye doctor should be available to answer those questions for you honestly and in a caring manner in order for you to make an informed decision about the health of your eyes.
You must ensure that your eye doctor is using the most up-to-date laser available when undergoing refractive surgery. Some LASIK surgeons may use older machines that have not been approved by the Food and Drug Administration. Be sure to ask your eye doctor what kind of laser is being used in the office, if it is approved by the FDA, and if it is routinely serviced.
The staff of an eye care facility is just as important as the eye doctor. Since you will be interacting closely with the staff members of an eye care practice, you should make sure the staff at the office is friendly, professional, and informative. They should be able to address any concerns you may have in an honest and friendly manner.
While the opinion of former patients is important, another good way to gauge the quality of a LASIK surgeon or ophthalmologist is to find the opinions of his or her colleagues. The team of Batra Vision Medical Group is proud to have performed LASIK surgery and other ophthalmology procedures on numerous patients as well as other eye doctors, their staff, and their family members.
