Experience and Foresight

His fascination with diseases of the eye, and his motivation to improve the lives of those who have poor vision, began early in his life. “My grandmother lost her eye to an infection, and it was replaced with a prosthetic,” Dr. Batra says. “I was always intrigued by that, but I was also sad that she had lost her eye. I wanted to help prevent other people from suffering the same experience,” he adds.

Both of Dr. Batra’s parents are physicians, and he worked in his father's medical office as a child and throughout medical school.

Early in his schooling and career, Dr. Batra achieved a reputation for academic rigor and surgical skill and also became known as a pioneer in advanced ophthalmology surgical techniques. He graduated from Dartmouth College in just three years and was one of the youngest graduates to earn a Doctorate of Medicine from UCLA. After medical school, Dr. Batra performed his ophthalmology residency at UC San Francisco (UCSF), where he holds several surgical records. He was the first resident at UCSF to perform LASIK surgery.

Dr. Batra received a fellowship from UCSF/Proctor Foundation in Cornea and Refractive surgery and was a Fellow at the Heed Foundation.

Refractive Surgery Pioneer

Recently, Dr. Batra has pioneered the use of the new “bladeless” LenSx® femtosecond laser (Alcon) for cataract surgery in the Bay Area. The LenSx® is the first advanced precision laser for cataract surgery to be approved by the FDA, and has resulted in improved safety and patient vision outcomes. Dr. Batra’s is also one of only 100 ophthalmologists nationwide to use a computerized diagnostic computer known as the 3-D Wave OPD Scan, which helps “map” a patient’s cornea and pinpoint vision abnormalities.

Dr. Janice D. Moyer

Dr. Janice D. Moyer earned her medical degree from Loyola University of Chicago, Stritch School of Medicine in May 1999. Following graduation, Dr. Moyer completed her medical residencies at John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital in Chicago, Illinois as well as Resurrection Medical Center (Chicago). Before joining BatraVision Medical Group in 2010, she practiced ophthalmology in both Chicago, Illinois and Bakersfield, California. Dr. Moyer holds multiple honors and awards from professional organizations, is a diplomate of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and has served as a mentor to medical students in both states wherein she has practiced.

Dr. Moyer participates in numerous national and international volunteer activities and is currently licensed to practice medicine in both California and Illinois.

Dr. Amelia Chen Sheh

The recipient of many medical awards for outstanding research and performance in ophthalmology, Dr. Amelia Sheh combines advanced medical expertise and a renowned doctor-patient rapport. After graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry and Cell Biology, she earned her medical degree from the University of California, San Diego and completed her medical residencies at UCLA at the prestigious Jules Stein Institute.

Dr. Sheh specializes in diagnosing and treating conditions associated with glaucoma and has practiced ophthalmology in California since graduating from medical school. An English, Spanish and Mandarin speaker, Dr. Sheh is a full member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology as well as the American Glaucoma Society. She is also an avid fitness enthusiast and long-distance and marathon runner.

Dr. Manjeet Uppal

Dr. Manjeet Uppal graduated from the University of British Columbia with a Bachelor of Science in Cell Biology and Genetics. She received her Doctor of Optometry from Pennsylvania College of Optometry. She has completed a number of optometric internships and externships in various parts of the country including Bolling Air Force Base, Capitol Eye Consultants, The Eye Institute, and Family Eye Care. Dr. Uppal has acquired extensive clinical experience dealing with various aspects of optometric and ophthalmic care. She is an active member of both the California Optometric Association and the American Optometric Association.
