Dr. Iryna A. Falkenstein is an ophthalmologist specializing in the diagnosis, medical and surgical treatment of all stages of glaucoma, ranging from glaucoma suspects to those with advanced disease and complex surgical needs. In addition she is a skilled surgeon performing routine and complex cataract surgery.
Prior to joining Batra Vision Medical Group in 2017, Dr. Falkenstein practiced for 4 years as a glaucoma faculty attending Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary at Harvard Medical School in Boston. She was actively involved in both patient’s clinical care with various degrees of glaucoma and cataracts as well as in surgical and medical teaching of Harvard residents and fellows.
A native to Russia, Dr. Falkenstein earned her medical degree at Crimea State Medical University in 1997. After a surgical internship at Los Angeles County Hospital, she continued her vigorous ophthalmology training as a resident physician at University of Texas, San Antonio, followed by one-year sub-specialty training in glaucoma at the University of North Carolina with Dr. Don Budenz. She is fluent in both Russian and Ukrainian.
Dr. Falkenstein is an active member of several professional organizations: the American Academy of Ophthalmology, American Glaucoma Society, Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology, and the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery.
